Selling images

How to sell stock images

1

Photograph or Illustrate

Try to capture a genuine and Nordic expression in your images. You can often find inspiration in your vicinity, like for example important landmarks from your hometown or your friends in everyday situations. Remember to use model releases and property releases if you want to sell your images commercially online.

2

Upload your images

When you have created an account at Mostphotos you can start uploading your images. Remember to mark your images with the correct licence, use relevant tags and keep your portfolio up to date with new relevant material to make your portfolio attractive.

3

Earning money

When you sell your images at Mostphotos you retain all rights to your images; what you are selling is the right to use them. You split the sale 50/50 with Mostphotos and you get to choose if you want your money through Paypal or to your bank account.

Editorial licences

Images with an editorial license can be used in connection with information and news, for the common interest. This type of image does not require a model release or property release even if the image portrays people or buildings. Editorial images can never be used for commercial purposes. Examples of editorial images include public figures, sporting events and images which display brand names and logotypes
Images with an editorial license can be used in connection with information and news, for the common interest. Examples of editorial images include public figures, sporting events and images which display brand names and logotypes. Common uses for editorial images include: news articles, non-fiction works, documentaries and public service content. Editorial images may only be cropped as long as the original motive is not distorted. Further edits are not allowed. This type of image does not require a model release or property release even if the image portrays people or buildings. However, editorial images may never be used for commercial purposes. A photo taken without permission should be published as editorial if the photo was taken in someone’s private property, if people in the image are identifiable with their faces visible or distinguishing marks such as tattoos for example.

Commercial licences

A commercial image can be used for purposes like marketing, advertising and sponsorship. Commercial images are generally in greater demand because of the more uses they have. However, in order to sell an image as commercial you normally require an agreement.
A commercial image can be used for purposes like marketing, advertising and sponsorship as well as digitally. Commercial images are generally in greater demand because of the more uses they have. A commercial image can be edited, cropped and can also be used for editorial purposes. However, in order to sell an image as commercial you normally require an agreement. This agreement is known as a model release, or property release and functions as a written agreement between photographers, models and property owners which assures that the image can be sold for commercial purposes. The exception is if the people depicted in the photographs are not identifiable; then the image can be sold with a commercial license without needing a model release.

How to work with Model and Property releases

1. Ask for permission

When taking a portrait or a photo of your friend`s apartment - ask them to sign an agreement so that you may sell the photos commercially!

2. Sign an agreement

By signing an agreement with the model / property owner you ensure that there will be no legal repercussions. Mostphotos accepts different kinds of model/property releases, but you may also use our own version.

3. Publish the image

When you have arranged your contract, you can sell the images with a commercial licence! Remember to always have your releases available, because you will need to present them if you are asked. You can use Mostphotos’ release if you like, but other types of releases are also acceptable.
